As much as knocking about home is fine, I miss wandering around my city. I miss browsing. I miss taking a little while longer to decide on something before I buy it. I miss picking things up by accident and walking back down Great Western Road with a much heavier load than what I left with.
I can’t wait for the day it is okay to browse my favourite shops and popping in just because I fancy it. But that might be a little while off yet so I’m on the lookout for my favourite stores that I can still shop and indulge with if I can from home. It is no secret I love filling my home with plants (recently did a plant tour on my Instagram stories for my interiors account @weewestendflat and I have 36 at the moment) so I am so chuffed two of my favourite Glasgow plant stores are adapting to life in lockdown in Scotland.
Having my plants around me has the been the biggest comfort to me during lockdown and massively improved my mental health as I’ve been living alone. They make any space feel alive and they’re something for me to focus on occasionally as you have to look after the vast majority of them, or they die. Much like me without attention.
Blooms
Blooms is a gorgeous plant and flower store on Dumbarton Road and they have the most gorgeous and inspiring Instagram page. I have shopped here a few times in the past and pre-Coronavirus, I had plans to be stopping in a lot more frequently. I have a gorgeous bunch of dried flowers from Blooms that sit in my bathroom and more recently I bought a Kangaroo Vine and a Bird’s Nest Fern from their online activities.
They now offer plants for sale via delivery on their website to select postcodes in the Glasgow area. They have done a couple of re-stocks and each plant on their website has a thorough description, helping you to make the right choice for your space or maintenance requirements. I have excitingly placed another order that coming should be coming to me very soon and I know it is somewhere I’ll be buying from again as having my plants around me has really helped me through these difficult times.
Another frequent place for me to buy plants in Glasgow is Barvas & James on Queen Margaret Drive. They have a gorgeous store with beautiful blooms and houseplants as well as being the only stockist for Pow Pots in Glasgow. I have a couple of plants from here that are thriving and I loved having a browse at the gorgeous plant pots as well.
They now offer fruit and veg boxes (Barvas Boxes) for £20 with the option to add on freshly baked sourdough loaves and eggs for an additional cost. I have had two so far during lockdown and they are well worth their value, so much fresh fruit and veg and delivery is usually within in a couple of days! They deliver to a lot of Glasgow addresses (although check with them to be sure) and take orders through their Instagram page and email – I would check their Instagram page for the most up to date information.
Barvas & James are also now offering plants and flowers as additional add-ons to their Barvas boxes. I’ve previously ordered a bunch of eucalyptus for £15 that is now drying out beautifully and I’m hoping it’ll keep for ages. I love seeing their Instagram stories of arrivals from Holland in the plants and flowers department as they have so much good stock.
I hope this helps if you’re local to Glasgow and are looking for ways to add some greenery to your home during this period whilst also supporting small indie businesses.
